Ubisoft has officially announced that its tactical RPG, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, will sunset its blockchain-linked features. In a recent update shared via the game's Discord, the studio outlined a transition toward a fully Web2 gaming experience. According to Ubisoft, the process begins with the end of the current competitive season, which will award prizes without any Web3 components. Season rewards will be adjusted to fit a Web2 framework, reflecting the shift away from blockchain-based incentives. The key transition milestone is May 27. On this date, Ubisoft will conduct a 'wallet freeze,' taking a one-time snapshot of each player's in-game inventory based on the latest connection. Once recorded, these assets—including champions, VIP status, and their associated perks—will remain available to players under the new system, but as Web2 game items linked to player accounts rather than blockchain assets. Also on May 27, the game's Forge and Marketplace functionalities will close permanently. Players are encouraged by Ubisoft to finalize any forging, trading, or marketplace activity before the cutoff point, as secondary trading and trait combination will no longer be possible afterward. The studio emphasized that collections will be locked according to what is captured by the snapshot. Champions Tactics had initially featured NFT-based champions and a blockchain-enabled economy with trading and creation mechanics via the Forge and Marketplace. With this transition, those blockchain systems will be retired, but player access to in-game content will persist. Ubisoft stated this approach is intended to minimize disruption and give players time to manage their assets and activities during the wind-down, with further updates promised in the coming weeks.
