CCP Games Builds EVE Frontier MMO on Sui Blockchain, Emphasizing Persistent Player-Shaped Worlds
CCP Games, the creators of EVE Online, are developing EVE Frontier, a space survival MMO, on the Sui blockchain. Recent discussions at Fanfest 2026 explored how Sui's object-centric architecture and modding capabilities support CCP's vision for a dynamic, persistent universe shaped by its players.

CCP Games has announced that its upcoming space survival MMO, EVE Frontier, will be developed on the Sui blockchain. This decision, explained during a Fanfest 2026 fireside chat in Reykjavik, involves an ongoing collaboration between CCP Games and Mysten Labs, the creators of the Sui blockchain network. Mysten Labs President Kevin Boon and CCP leadership discussed their shared goal of building digital spaces that persist over time and are significantly influenced by player actions and creations. EVE Frontier is designed to feature tens of thousands of interconnected star systems, enabling players not only to explore and survive but also to build, trade, and shape the universe itself. The Sui blockchain supports this vision with its object-oriented structure, treating every in-game asset—such as ships, factories, and infrastructure—as independent objects with their own history and rules. According to CCP, this aligns closely with how EVE Frontier is architected internally, allowing for seamless integration between game systems and blockchain back-end. Importantly, CCP is positioning blockchain technology in EVE Frontier as a developer and player toolset rather than simply a means for speculative value. The game is being constructed to be extensively moddable, with both players and third-party developers able to introduce new content and programmable structures, referred to as Smart Assemblies. This approach aims to support creative contributions at scale while prioritizing system security and integrity. EVE Frontier's gameplay narrative picks up in a universe where the remnants of humanity grapple with the aftermath of societal collapse, competing for scarce resources amidst threats such as feral drone swarms and mysterious factions. Unlike EVE Online, which has over twenty years of live operations, EVE Frontier represents a new branch in the EVE universe, crafted as a 'clean-sheet' sandbox emphasizing consequence, freedom, and user-generated content. The project is being managed under CCP's Fenris Creations studio and is backed by a development team composed largely of EVE Online veterans. According to the studio, their ongoing mission is to construct virtual worlds with depth and meaning—a philosophy that informs the design of EVE Frontier and its use of emerging blockchain tools. As development progresses, CCP and Mysten Labs continue to explore ways of enabling persistent, programmable, and player-directed universes.
